As part of the Season of Shared Light, Cal Shakes is opening up the Bruns Amphitheater to arts and cultural institutions from around the Bay Area.  From May to October, safely enjoy concerts, dance performances, opera, and much more.  Bookmark this page to keep up with all the events this summer, or join our email list to stay in the know.

May 9: Smuin al Fresco, Smuin Contemporary Ballet

Smuin al Fresco features excerpts from Michael Smuin’s The Tempest and Sueños Latinos as well as favorite selections from the Smuin Songbook. Smuin Contemporary Ballet is also thrilled to present a number of new works! The programs include premieres by eight Company Artists, as well as a new pas de deux by Rex Wheeler. Learn more.

May 15-16: Snapshot, West Edge Opera

West Edge Opera presents selections from 6 new operas in development, in partnership with Earplay Chamber Music Ensemble. A two-hour program sampling six new operas! Learn more.

June 4-5: Animal Liberation Orchestra

Paper Moon Presents brings the Measure for Measure Concert Series to the Bruns featuring outdoor music and dancing with ALO. The shows promise to be a full weekend event with roaming performers, craft vendors, and delicious picnic meals for sale. More concerts in the series will be announced soon! Learn more.

July 2: Taj Mahal

Paper Moon Presents brings the Measure for Measure Concert Series to the Bruns featuring legendary blues musician Taj Mahal with opening act Gaby Moreno. Doors open at 5 pm, show at 7 pm. Tickets are limited, and shows adhere to Contra Costa County COVID guidelines. More concerts in the series will be announced soon! Learn more.

July 3-4: Rebirth Brass Band

Paper Moon Presents is excited to host two evenings of live music with the greatest New Orleans band on the planet, the Rebirth Brass Band as part of the Measure for Measure Concert Series. Doors open at 5 pm, show at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale Friday, May 7th at 10 am. Learn more.

July 24- Aug 8: West Edge Festival, West Edge Opera

Three weekends of three operas: one from early music, one from the 20th century, and one contemporary. Catch Eliogabalo by Franesco Cavalli, Katya Kabanova by Leoš Janáček, and Elizabeth Cree by Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell. Learn more.
