Volunteers are a vital part of any nonprofit organization, and California Shakespeare Theater is no exception, with over 1,000 volunteers from all over the Bay Area and from all walks of life.
Volunteering with California Shakespeare Theater can be a great opportunity to experience and learn new things, spend time with family and friends, earn high school credit, fulfill community service requirements, see great theater for free, and, most importantly, pay it forward in the spirit of volunteerism.
Currently we are seeking volunteers for our Student Matinees of Othello.
We host over 500 students each matinee, many of whom have never had a theatrical experience like this. It is important to have enthusiastic people to greet and support the groups in their experience.
Time commitment: 8:30a to 2:00p (breakfast provided)
Dates: 9/23, 9/28, 9/30, 10/5, 10/7
Description of role: Assisting student groups and chaperones in finding their way around the Bruns campus, watching the show with the groups, and helping them to move safely to the parking lot and various means of transportation out.
We are also seeking volunteers for regular evening performances of Othello.

Each of our 90 outdoor summer performances require the help of up to 15 volunteer ushers to make sure all goes smoothly. Volunteer ushers distribute programs, help with seating, assist with Will Call ticketing, and do a little general site upkeep after each performance. Ushers get to see the show, so get a group of friends to usher with to make a fun night for everyone. Click here to read or download a copy of our current ushering manual.
Cal Shakes’ Artistic Learning programs create links between our artistic programming and the classroom through in-school residencies, Summer Theater Programs (camps), Audience Enrichment events, and Student Discovery Matinees. Help us bring the arts to young people across the region!.
We always need fun and organized people to support us with the day-to-day tasks of our administrative offices, which include our Box Office, Development department, and Marketing department. California Shakespeare Theater hosts many exciting special events and we are seeking capable volunteers to help us continue to make these events a success!
We need volunteers to help assist the Special Events Team:
This position gives volunteers the opportunity to attend a wide range of Cal Shakes special events and programs free of charge and contribute in bringing dynamic theater to the public. This is an excellent way to get involved with the Cal Shakes community! This position requires availability during the evenings and weekends dependent on scheduled events. Access to a vehicle is required because our events take place at a distance from public transit.
