Parking Advisory for THE TEMPEST

June 20th, 2012 — 11:52am

On several occasions over the past two weeks, the California Highway Patrol has issued tickets to cars parked outside of Cal Shakes’ parking areas. Cal Shakes provides parking within the fenced area of our parking lot off of Wilder Road, and in the perpendicular spaces along the paved road across from our parking lot. Parking in the gravel area near the Hwy 24 onramp (on the other side of our parking lot), along the onramp,  as well as the area along Wilder Road before the designed parking spaces, is not authorized. Click here for an image showing permitted parking (in blue) and areas where people have been ticketed (in red).

Because we are anticipating very full houses during this final week of The Tempest, we encourage you to arrive early to allow time to park, to carpool if coming with friends, and to take advantage of our complimentary shuttle from the Orinda BART station. If you are not able to find parking within our lot, we recommend parking at BART and taking our free shuttle from there. The shuttle will return you to BART at the end of the evening.

We are extremely sorry about this inconvenience. We are working with CHP and Cal Trans to try to understand why parking in these areas has recently become an issue after all this time, but, in the meantime, we wanted to alert you so you could plan accordingly and avoid the risk of an expensive parking ticket.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Janet Magleby, Director of Marketing, at jmagleby@calshakes.org or 510.548.3422.

Take BART to Cal Shakes June 21 and Win a $10 BART Ticket!

June 1st, 2012 — 11:16am

On June 21, National Dump the Pump Day, travelers are encouraged to park their cars and favor public transportation. Cal Shakes and BART are joining the festivities by collaborating on a special contest: Travel to Cal Shakes by BART for our June 21 performance of The Tempest, and you’ll get a sticker saying you “Dumped the Pump” when you board our free BART-to-Bruns shuttle at Orinda station. At the Bruns, roving spies will be looking for sticker-sporting patrons, on whom they’ll bestow $10 BART tickets. Take BART to Cal Shakes on June 21: Save gas, help the environment, and maybe win a free future ride!

Please email marketingintern@calshakes.org by 6/18 if you plan to take BART to Cal Shakes on 6/21, so that we can plan accordingly to accommodate riders on our free shuttle. Thanks!
